Finding Your Purpose

I’ve always wanted to do something with my life that made a difference. I wanted a purpose to what I was doing. There were many hours spent awake at night thinking about what I could do. What career could I have that would make a difference. Then few years ago I went to a conference for work and the discussions were about finding your purpose. That’s what the majority of millennials said they wanted.

Well I’m one of those millennials. During that conference we listened to one of the founders of Life is Good and one of the things he talked about was how his company took X% (I can’t remember anymore) of their profits and put it into the foundation that they have set up. He said that his employees may not want to or be able to go out and do things or even donate to organizations but know that doing their jobs well means more profit which means more into the foundation. Those that want to do things themselves, still can!

We all have a purpose in life. I wanted to do so much more than I could a few years ago, but just doing my job well meant I was. Now, I’ve got an amazing opportunity and platform to use with my amputation and cancer. I’ve said this before, but if you gave me a chance to go back and keep all of this from happening, I would. Alas, until they learn to grow legs, it’s my life and I’m going to use it!

You may not know what your purpose is yet. Maybe you feel like you do know, but you’re not sure how to achieve it. That’s ok! For some, their purpose is to raise their kids. For some it’s to be a youth pastor. For some (I PRAY) it’s to cure cancer. Give up on your purpose and maybe the person you didn’t help doesn’t get the chance to cure cancer because they were late for a class. (Dramatic example I know) My point is, even if you see a larger purpose, I don’t believe there is just one thing. We all have numerous purposes on Earth that all fit into God’s plan. His purpose for us is to be His light.

So smile at the person you pass on the street. Instead of judging that mom who’s struggling with her kids at the store, maybe you can help entertain her crying child. Just be a good person and you’d be amazed at how your purpose in life will become clearer to you.
